Frequently Asked Questions:

(Q) Where are you located?  What are your office hours?

(A)  We are located on the first floor, east side of the Hendricks County Courthouse in Danville.  Our hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding county recognized holidays.  We close from noon to 1 p.m. for lunch.  Occasionally we are required to attend training and educational sessions.  If our office is closed for that reason we alter our phone message to include that information.

(Q) Why are your phone hours limited?  Why is the phone always busy when I try to call?

(A)  Hendricks County is rapidly growing.  Our office presently has over 3,000 open cases which are handled exclusively by one deputy prosecutor and three caseworkers.  We limit our phone hours in order to allow time to work on cases, return phone calls, and prepare files for court without interruption.  Call volume is high during phone hours, so if you receive a busy signal it is because all available caseworkers are on the phone with other participants.

(Q) I'm supposed to pay through Hendricks County.  What's the address?

(A)  Hendricks County Clerk, P.O. Box 599, Danville, IN  46122.  The Clerk's office is located on the 2nd floor of the Courthouse.  They accept payments by cash, money order and cashier's check.  NO PERSONAL CHECKS ARE ACCEPTED.  Be sure to include your name, the custodial parent's name, the case and/or cause number to ensure proper credit.  Income withholding orders are generated the Title IV-D Office.  If you are required to pay by this method, provide your employer's name, address and telephone number to our office and we will prepare the order and contact your employer for you.

(Q) The other parent missed last week's payment.  What should I do?

(A)  Generally our office does not take any action for missed payments until 30 days have elapsed.  There could be a good reason for missing payments such as a losing a job, being sick or not able to work for a short period of time.  If the other parent has lost a job and is eligible for unemployment benefits, it often takes a few weeks for those benefits to begin.
Do not assume our office knows when payments stop.  If 30 days pass without a payment, please call or send
us a fax. We will review the file to see if any communication has been made by the obligor or his/her employer and determine what action should be taken. If you are an obligor that is body attachment eligible, please communicate any change of employment or illness to our office to ensure that a body attachment is not requested when there is some legitimate reason for your not paying support.

(Q) How can I find out if a child support payments has been made?

(A)  You can call the Kids' Line at: 1 (800) 840-8757.

(Q) I have questions about the debit card account set up for receiving my payments.  Who do I contact for information about this?

(A)  You can call the Kids' Line at: 1 (800) 840-8757.

(Q) I would rather pay directly.  Why isn't this permitted?

(A)  The Indiana Support Enforcement Tracking System (ISETS) keeps track of payments received. It is the computer program utilized by the clerk's office and state central processing unit to post payments. It is also the program the IV-D office uses to monitor payments and utilize certain enforcement tools. When payments are not made through ISETS, an arrearage develops and may result in interception of tax refunds, vehicle liens, passport denials, credit bureau reporting and other such enforcement action. Also, if the obligor is body attachment eligible, it may result in a warrant being issued due to noncompliance/nonpayment.
If you wish to pay directly, it is at your own risk and detriment.
Custodial parents who accept direct payments will be dropped from our program.
To the extent the custodial parent is a TANF recipient, he/she has assigned his/her support rights to the State of Indiana. If TANF is being received, then the state is entitled to any support paid by the obligor. The custodial parent cannot collect from both the state and the obligor.

(Q) Where can I find information regarding child support laws and regulations?

(A)  Indiana Child Support Bureau, Indiana Child Support Calculator.
