The Community Outreach division promotes the wellbeing of Hendricks County through education, programs, and engagement with the community.
Main Programs:
- Community Education, Outreach, and Public Events
- Outreach team provides a variety of presentations, education, trainings, and public health items to the community. Community members, organizations, schools, and other interested individuals can request a presentation on a variety of public health topics.
- Outreach team creates educational materials regarding various health topics and distributes them as flyers or digitally on social media.
EVENTS: The team attends several community events and provides education, informational materials, and various safety items.
HEALTH FIRST INDIANA: Outreach team assists with the implementation and planning of Health First Indiana. See HFI on page 11 for more information.

Substance Use Prevention and Mental Health
- Naloxone Training and Distribution: Opioid overdose reversal training is readily available to all in the community for free. Participants can learn how to use Naloxone and receive free doses. Naloxone is also available 24/7 through our naloxbox program. Naloxboxes are acrylic boxes mounted to the exterior wall of a building that provides 24/7 access to readily-accessible doses of nasal-spray naloxone. Hendricks County has 3 naloxboxes locations: Journey Church of Avon, Family Promise of Hendricks County, Brownsburg Public Library.
Suicide and Overdose Fatality Review

SOFR teams are county-led teams that review local suicide and overdose deaths. Case reviews can lead to community-informed recommendations. Teams have a variety of members from healthcare, public safety, mental and behavioral health, social services, education, and other agencies that share and evaluate information.
Tobacco Prevention and Cessation

Our tobacco cessation coordinator works to reduce rates of smoking and vaping in Hendricks County through various programming, education, and coordinating a local tobacco cessation and prevention coalition.
Mental health Platform-Credible Mind

The Hendricks County Health Department has partnered with CredibleMind to provide a platform for credible mental health information. Credible Mind is a free online platform that brings together expert-rated and vetted videos,podcasts, apps, online programs, books, and articles all in one easy-to-use place.

The Health Department provides various items to help reduce the risk of addiction; such as Deterra medicine disposal bags, SHARPs, and other items as able. Medications and SHARPs are also collected at Hendricks County Tox Away Days through our partnership with Hendricks County Recycling District.
