In accordance with IC 6-1.1-24, the Auditor and Treasurer hold a tax sale every fall in an attempt to collect delinquent property taxes. Property taxes are due on May 10th and November 10th each year. Any property that is more than 3 installments delinquent is subject to having a tax lien placed against it and then having that lien sold at the tax sale. 

Hendricks County partners with SRI Tax Sale Services to conduct their tax sale each year.   

Taxpayers whose property is slated to have a lien placed against it and that lien sold at the upcoming tax sale will be notified by certified mail/first class mail prior to the sale. In addition to those notices, a list of all tax sale properties will be advertised in the local newspaper for 3 consecutive weeks. 

Any property that does not have its delinquent taxes paid before the date of the tax sale will have a tax lien placed against it and that lien can be purchased by a bidder at the public tax sale auction. The taxpayer must then pay off all outstanding taxes, fees, and interest against their property before the end of the redemption period or risk losing their property to the successful bidder. 

This important part of the property tax process is typically held each year in September or October at the Hendricks County Government Center. The previously unpaid property taxes that are collected as a result of the tax sale are distributed back to the taxing units that should have received them initially.
